Running & Soloing

Being able to solo the ball at pace while running is essential for GAA. This skill combines footwork and ball control so players can carry the ball forward without slowing down.

01

Keep Your Head Up

Look ahead as you run, not down at the ball. Trusting your technique lets you see teammates and space while still keeping control.

02

Soft Hands on the Drop

Gently release the ball from waist height in front of your kicking foot. A soft drop gives a clean, predictable contact.

03

Short, Controlled Flick

Use a small, compact kick to flick the ball back up — don't over-kick. The goal is to get the ball back into your hands quickly, not to kick it far.

04

Find Your Rhythm

Two or three running strides between each solo is the natural rhythm. Practice until the drop and kick feel like part of your running stride.
