High Kick & Catch

Combining the high kick with a clean catch is a core GAA skill. One player kicks the ball high and the other must read its flight, get into position, and take it safely under pressure.

For Parents & Coaches

01

Read the Ball Early

Watch the ball from the moment it's kicked and start moving immediately. Getting into position early is the secret to a clean catch.

02

Get Under the Ball

Position yourself directly under the ball's flight path. Catching the ball above your head gives you the best control.

03

The W Shape Hands

Bring thumbs together with fingers spread wide forming a W. This gives you the largest and safest catching surface for a dropping ball.

04

Call for It

Shout 'mine!' as you go for the ball. This lets teammates know you have it and helps you commit fully to the catch with confidence.
