Hand Toe (Soloing)

Soloing is when you drop the ball onto your foot and kick it back up into your hands while running. Along with the bounce, it's one of the two legal ways to carry the ball in GAA — and you must alternate between them.

01

Drop, Don't Throw

Let the ball fall from your hands onto your foot — don't throw it down. A natural drop gives you the most control over the contact.

02

Use the Top of Your Foot

Strike the ball with your laces to flick it back up. A gentle, controlled kick is all you need — no power required.

03

Keep It at Chest Height

Aim to flick the ball back up to chest or waist height so it's easy to gather. Too high and you'll lose momentum.

04

Alternate With the Bounce

You can't solo twice in a row — you must bounce in between. Practice the solo-bounce-solo rhythm until it feels natural.
